Jakarta (March 7, 2021) – Following today’s approval by Swiss voters of the Indonesia – European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IE-CEPA), the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gabungan Pengusaha Kelapa Sawit Indonesia, GAPKI) issued the following statement:

“We are grateful for the outcome of today’s vote. The trade deal is a win-win for the palm oil industry, Indonesia, for Switzerland, and for all EFTA nations, and will bring positive benefits for Swiss consumers and exporters and Indonesian small farmers. The Swiss vote affirmed that Indonesian palm oil is sustainable. We hope our European partners will now accept that Indonesian palm oil sustainability standards are best-in-class, and that Europe will no longer pursue rules that undermine open markets and the goals of the Strategic Partnership Dialogue.”
